Waiting

Time to geek out for a second.
I’ve been watching/reading reviews on Verizon’s Droid for the last few weeks, hoping that I would see or hear something that would make me want to buy the Droid over the iPhone. I wish I could say I was impressed. I wanted to say I was impressed because I’m happy with Verizon and I wish they offered a phone similar to or better than the iPhone.
First of all, the marketing for the Droid would be extremely impressive if it weren’t for one fatal flaw, the existence of the iPhone. I’ve found myself to be a lot less impressed with what the Droid can do simply because I’ve seen all of it accomplished on the iPhone (except for Google Navigation Street View, which has been the most impressive thing I’ve seen from the Droid).
But the Droid’s design makes me feel like the Droid is an iPhone that started shopping at a Thrift Store for old men. Everyone keeps talking about how great the physical QWERTY keyboard is on the Droid but it only makes the phone more clunky (it outweighs the iPhone by 25%). It’s hard to compete with the iPhone’s sleek design.
After looking into it, I can now say that the only reason I don’t have an iPhone is because I would have to pay a ridiculous amount of money to get out of my contract with Verizon and I’m honestly really happy with the service I get through them. It doesn’t make sense to pay an unnecessary amount of money to switch to a carrier with spotty service just for a different phone.
The only hope I’ve found in all of this is that there are rumors that the iPhone will be coming to Verizon next year.
I think I can wait.
